Student Spotlight: Anastasiia Komarova, Class of 2018

September 7, 2015

My name is Anastasiia Komarova; I am a Russian student studying Communications at John Cabot University. I have always been interested in different countries, their cultures, and their traditions. John Cabot University gave me an incredible possibility not only to meet people from all over the world, but also to study in English in the heart of Italy. My University life doesn't stop when the classes are over. At John Cabot every student has the opportunity to join different clubs, starting from the Business Club all the way to Latino Dancing club.

The University also holds a lot of entertaining events during the year, like the Gala and Spring Fling. If students are not interested in taking part in fancy parties, they can always discover Italy and Europe by signing up for the diverse field trips run by the Student Life office and traveling on their own over the weekend.

Personally, I have also benefited from the possibility of working at the University. The working team is always friendly, the atmosphere is enjoyable and pleasant. I have worked in three different departments so far; Special Events, Computer Lab, and the Marketing Office. All the three have helped me improve my working skills and learn something new.

I lived in the Gianicolo Residence during my first semester, which gave me an opportunity to immediately make friends with 5 amazing girls! We helped each other throughout the semester and shared our personal experiences and cultural backgrounds, and girls are still five of my best friends on campus.

I prefer the American higher education system to the Russian one. One of my favorite aspects of studying at JCU is that I can choose both my classes and my professors. If I dislike a certain class for some reason, I can drop it and take it during another semester, or if possible, not take it at all and choose another class instead to fulfill the same requirement. As a this is only my second year at John Cabot, I do not know that many professors but the ones I have already taken classes with are excellent. My Italian teacher, Professor Galante, has always been ready to help me, even when the class was over. My English teacher, Professor Deane, helped me realize what my strengths and weaknesses are in writing, and certainly improved my Grammar and Vocabulary.

Overall, after studying for half of the year in John Cabot, I can state that I am extremely happy that I got a chance to enter this friendly community, and am looking forward to my next few years in Rome.
