The JCU co-ed volleyball team opened the third and event packed week of the Athletics season with a challenging match on Monday, February 16th. Our Gladiators faced Link Campus University, in a tough match that formed part tournament between Roman Universities.
The Gladiators gave their all, and battled hard from the very beginning, as LCU’s spikers held a strong advantage of the game, leaving our defense immobile. The first set passed with the blink of an eye, with the Gladiators managing to bring home 10 points, but losing the set to LCU.
In the second half of the game, the Gladiators caught up with the strategy of our opponents, and were able to maintain a balanced score for the better part of the remaining game time. Despite the numerous player substitutions however, our Gladiators were unable to break even, losing neck and neck with 25 to 21, and a final result of 0-2.
Co-coach Marco Iorio kept the morale high, and noted that “the clear role of the individuals in LCU’s team was the key to their success. We must keep practicing the same methods, train more, and I am certain that we will have our say in the playoffs…our Gladiators defiantly do not lack oomph! ”
