Monday, March 23rd kicked off an action packed week of sports events, with JCU co-ed volleyball, and men and women’s soccer teams all participating in tough games.
Men’s Soccer: JCU-LUMSA: 3-0
With LUMSA’s experienced goalie absent due to an injury, the JCU Gladiators were able to secure a strong three-nil victory. The feat proved pivotal for the Gladiators as it secured their fourth placement in the Roman Universities championship!
The first half of the match saw a quick succession of scores; Man of the match Travis Pillon effortlessly bagged the first goal, with Mihailovic slipping in the second only moments later with a very strong shot to the low-corner of the goal. A penalty kick by Sergio Romano curled in the third and final goal of the evening, thanks to a gorgeous assist by Ludovichetti.
Women’s Soccer: JCU-UCSC: 0-0
The Lady Gladiators met UCSC anew in order to resolve the last 8 minutes of last week’s suspended game time. JCU made several rigorous attempts at securing a lead, but were unable to score a goal given the very limited time frame.
Come show your support as the Gladiators face a derby against AUR on Wednesday, March 25th!
Co-ed Volleyball: JCU-LCU: 1-2
The first of the semifinal games saw JCU give their all, battling neck to neck with LCU for each point during the first set. Despite LCU’s advantage of the first set with a 4 point difference at 25-21, the Gladiators showed great team pride and sportsmanship, managing momentarily to tie the match by at 1-1 with a 3 point lead in the second set at 25-22, thanks to the most valuable played of the match, Ronzulli. However, the ultimate tie breaker was attributable to LCU’s greater focus, as they secured the victory with the final set at 15-10.
Despite JCU’s loss, the team demonstrated great improvements, as only a month ago LCU defeated the Gladiators with a final score of 2-0.
Come show your JCU spirit and cheer on the Gladiators as they play the second half of the semifinals on Tuesday, March 31st!
