Girls in beautiful floor-length dresses; guys in their best suits…what a wonderful way to see your fellow classmates, peers, professors, staff, and board members in the John Cabot University community. Saturday night was a spectacular evening: the 2013 John Cabot University President’s Gala that took place at the beautiful Hotel Hassler. An event such as this would have been special regardless of the location and attendees; however, the fact that it took place in Rome with JCU students made the event an incredibly memorable experience.
Imagine being in your fanciest clothes; drinking a glass of wine in a 5 star hotel located at the top of the Spanish steps. Stepping outside to mingle with your friends and watch the people of Rome below you carrying on with their evening activities; shopping; strolling; driving home for the night while you stand there laughing; talking; feeling the slight breeze in the air. It was a night to remember. The night began with prosecco and music on the outside terrace, followed by a delicious three-course meal, and ended with chocolate mousse with raspberries for dessert. The JCU President’s Gala allowed students from all over the world to share this evening together in one of Rome’s most beautiful and historic locations.
The President’s Gala was my favorite JCU event so far not just because it was out of the ordinary, but also because it brought the entire JCU community together outside of our typical school environment. It gave us the opportunity to relax for a classy evening and forget our every day troubles (which for most of us right now include studying for midterms and writing papers). Overall, one word that I think describes the evening perfectly is: luxurious. It was a beautiful and classy event, and I am already daydreaming about my dress for next year’s gala.
