Male and Female Gladiators Dominate Championship Matches

Wednesday, February 18th marked an important day for JCU athletics, as both our female and male Gladiators played their first and second games of the championship. The evening started with a Pep Rally organized by Student Government and the Athletics department, who provided music, food, and entertainment as fans crowded the campus to show their support. A special thanks to Marta Cangiula for aiding with the logistics, and for her “head gladiator” spirit.

After last week’s victory in the TimeSport Cup, the JCU Lady Gladiators maintained first place in the league, through a victory against Link Campus Erasmus.

Although the game got off to a slow start where the Gladiators missed a few occasions to score, and were under 1-0, Alexandra balanced the score. After few moments however, Link Campus managed to score again after catching the goalie off-guard and leaving JCU behind at  2-1.

Coach Paolo’s substitutions paved the way for a fantastic come back for JCU. In only 15 minutes JCU were leading 7-2, thanks to four goals from Madeleine, one by Maria, and one by Emily.

The defense played strong; Alyssa managed to steer the ball far from the goal, Valeria and Andrea broke up the opponent’s game while Sammy and Emilia were alert in attack maintaining ball possession.
