Win a Scholarship to Study Abroad at John Cabot University this summer!

As part of John Cabot University’s pledge to the Institute for International Education’s “Generation Study Abroad” initiative to increase the number of American students studying abroad, we are pleased to announce that we will be awarding four tuition scholarships for one three credit summer class from the options below during one of JCU’s summer sessions (Summer I: May 21-June 27; Summer II: July 2-August 8).

In the spirit of our two summer Institutes focusing on Creative Writing and International Communications, we ask that participants submit an original video or essay explaining which course you have chosen to study this summer at John Cabot University in Rome, Italy.

The scholarship will cover the tuition for one of the ten class options below:

  2. HS 374: Hitler and Mussolini: the Fascist and National Socialist Movements and Regimes (Summer I)
  3. LAT 101: Elementary Latin (Summer I)
  4. PL 215: Italy Politics and Society (Summer I)
  5. PL 357 Italy and the Middle East (Summer I)
  6. PL 360: The Political Economy of Globalization (Summer I)
  7. SOSC/ITS 226: Rome: Modern City (On-Site) (Summer I & II)
  8. AH 376: Michelangelo (Summer I)
  9. BUS 301: Business Ethics (Summer I & II)
  10. CMS 331: Media in the Mediterranean (Summer II)

The scholarship committee will award the four summer scholarships based upon the criteria of intellectual curiosity, creativity, thoughtfulness, and originality of the video or essay.

OFFICIAL SCHOLARSHIP RULES

  1. ELIGIBILITY

This scholarship is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia (excluding Puerto Rico and all other territories), who are 18 years of age or older, and who are current undergraduate or graduate students (including those who will graduate in 2015) at an American or Canadian college or university, or who will have graduated from high school by May 20, 2015 but are not yet matriculated in a college/university.

The scholarship may only be awarded to students who have applied for and been accepted to study at one of JCU’s summer sessions. To be eligible, the student must complete his or her application to study abroad at JCU this summer by February 15, 2015. The $50 application fee will be waived for scholarship participants who complete their application by February 15, 2015.

  1. HOW TO ENTER

Phase 1: Entries may be submitted between 12 a.m. Eastern Time on November 30, 2014 and 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on February 15, 2015. Entries received after the entry period are ineligible for consideration by the judges.

To enter, submit a video or explaining why you would like to spend this summer studying at John Cabot University. Videos should be under five minutes long, and essays should be no more than 600 words. Submit your entry via email to [email protected] and share it with us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/JohnCabotUniversity), Twitter (https://twitter.com/JohnCabotRome), or Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/JohnCabotU). All entries will be posted publicly on John Cabot University’s Admissions Blog, (http://admissions.johncabot.edu).

Once you have submitted your entry, you will officially be entered into the scholarship competition. Entries cannot be revised or altered once they have been submitted. By entering, you grant John Cabot University the right to share your video on the University website and official social media channels.

John Cabot University shall have the right to disqualify any entries that the University deems to be inappropriate or not in good taste. Entries must be 100% your original work.

Phase 2: The judging period begins on February 16, 2015 and ends on March 1, 2015. The judges will select a total of four (4) scholarship winners. The winners will be selected on the basis of talent, originality, style, and creativity. The judges will select an alternate winner(s) should the original scholarship winner(s) be unable to participate.

Phase 3: The winners will be notified in March 2015.

  1. SCHOLARSHIPS

John Cabot University will award four (4) scholarships, each covering the tuition fees for a three course summer class at John Cabot University. The tuition scholarship only covers one of the following courses offered during one of JCU’s summer sessions (Summer I: May 21-June 27; Summer II: July 2-August 8):

The winners will receive the scholarship by officially enrolling at John Cabot University for the summer session (April 15 for summer I, May 15 for summer II). The total value of the scholarship is $3,050. The scholarship may not be redeemed for cash value. If the student selected declines or is unable to participate there will be no cash compensation. Housing fees, tuition fees for a second 3-credit course, and travel costs are not included.

  1. SCHOLARSHIP AWARDING

Limit one scholarship per person. No substitution, transfer of any scholarship or cash alternative permitted. The scholarship winners may be notified by phone or e-mail and will be required to confirm attendance by March 30, 2015. The scholarship winner must agree in to allow the use of his/her name, likeness, and/or voice in publicity or advertising concerning this promotion without additional compensation.

John Cabot University reserves the right to revoke the scholarship in the event of material misrepresentation. If the potential winning entrant cannot be contacted; is ineligible; fails to return the completed and executed Affidavit and Release; if the Scholarship Notification is returned undeliverable; or if the potential winner otherwise fails to fully comply with these Official Rules, he/she will forfeit that scholarship and the scholarship may be awarded to an alternate winner as selected by John Cabot University.

  1. GENERAL CONDITIONS

By entering the scholarship competition and/or accepting the scholarship, entrants/scholarship winners agree to: be bound by these rules; release John Cabot University from all liability, claims, action, or proceedings relating to the scholarship competition and from injuries or damages arising in connection with or relating to participation in the competition; waive any right to claim ambiguity in the competition or these Official Rules.

All entries become the property of John Cabot University and will not be returned. John Cabot University is not liable for injury, loss, or damage of any kind resulting from the acceptance or use of any scholarship, travel related thereto or from participation in this scholarship competition.
