Student Spotlight: Poppy Grima, JCU Class of 2017

I’m Poppy from the UK, I’m 19 years old and I joined John Cabot this fall, after taking a gap year. I am studying for a degree in Art History. My experience so far has been everything I hoped and wanted it to be, I feel completely supported and feel that I am in an environment where I can truly excel. The professors are extremely active in their field, and it is very inspiring to be around people with such enthusiasm for their subject.

There are many more contact hours than one could find at a UK university, with class sizes of no more than 25, which makes for a very hands on learning experience with opportunities to contribute to class and really be a part of the lessons. Along with majoring in Art History I am also following the American college of humanities curriculum so I study English composition, Math and many more subjects, which creates a further depth to my learning as the subjects overlap and inform one another.

Living in Rome has been a wonderful experience so far; the exceptional organization of the university has made the transition of moving to a new country very smooth and I feel very at home already. The accommodation, which is organized by JCU, is convenient and feels very homely.

The international environment I have become part of has completely opened up my horizons, there is so much potential for working with such a diverse range of people and in class its so interesting having the various opinions of people from all over the world!
